Empowering education providers to deliver outstanding support
The workshops SPD Tuition and Coaching run in schools and nurseries cover the science behind behaviour, to support emotional understanding and active empathy. Whether this be limiting beliefs in senior leaders, or self-esteem issues within pupils, all of our programmes are underpinned with science-fact, and can be delivered remotely or in-school. Our packages support settings to embed strategies, build up their toolkits, and weave them into both the school day, and ethos.
Teacher consultancy, coaching and training
At SPD Tuition and Coaching, we are committed to supporting the well-being and academic success of all children. Our evidence-based programmes and teacher training approach are focussed on developing social and emotional skills that enable children to regulate their emotions, build positive relationships, and communicate effectively. We use physiology, mind management, and emotional balance to engage, empower, and educate staff in how to get the most from every child. By moving away from traditional ‘behaviour management’ systems, we enable teachers to embed tools and techniques for self-regulation, co-regulation, and self-motivation in their daily teaching practices. This leads to calmer learning environments that promote positive outcomes for all children, allowing them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
In addition to our commitment to supporting children’s academic success and well-being, we also offer The Balance system at SPD Tuition and Coaching. This system is designed to help individuals regulate their emotions and achieve a state of emotional balance. The Balance system utilises a combination of physiological, psychological, and emotional techniques to help individuals manage stress, reduce anxiety, and improve their overall well-being. Our teachers and staff are trained in The Balance system, which enables them to incorporate these techniques into their teaching practices. By utilising The Balance system, we create a learning environment that promotes positive outcomes for all children, as it helps them regulate their emotions, build positive relationships, and communicate effectively. This leads to calmer classrooms where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We believe that supporting the well-being and academic success of all children starts with providing training and support to educators and staff. That’s why we offer evidence-based training programs focused on developing social and emotional skills for teachers, leadership, and staff. Our training approach is centred on managing behaviour through emotional understanding and regulation, effective communication, de-escalating behaviour, increasing engagement, removing discipline and punishment, and increasing collaboration and creativity. We also provide training on the science behind behaviour, self-regulation, co-regulation, and shared regulation.
In addition to training for educators and staff, we also offer workshops for parents, support for SENCOs and sessions that empower support staff. Our training is designed to enable all adults in managing their own minds and emotions so that they can effectively co-regulate with the children around them. Our approach empowers educators to create an environment where every child can reach their full potential, both academically and socially, by moving from managing behaviour with control and command approaches to balancing emotional regulation using The Balance System approach.
Well-Being
Staff well-being workshops
We understand the importance of maintaining good mental health when it comes to productivity and sustainability, so our staff well-being programmes have been designed to support teams in the work place.
Our services have a huge impact on staff confidence and morale, which in turn increases performance, retention and most importantly has a positive impact on the children they work with.
Well-being curriculum
Our range of staff training programmes enable schools and nurseries to create a robust, science-backed curriculum, and embed a well-being culture within the setting.
Mental health is for everyone, and the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the urgent need for better mental health services. The DFE stated that ‘mental health problems in 5–16-year-olds has risen from 10.8% in 2017, to 16.0% in July 2020 across age, gender and ethnicities’.
